The Thursday Group
"We come to receive...We stay to give."
The Thursday Group began when three women, who had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, met at their surgeon's request, to talk with a nurse from England. The three women, who had never met each other, found they had so much to talk about, they did not want the evening to end. They found they each shared an understanding they had not experienced before. They knew they wanted to get together again. Thus, the Thursday Group began in 1975.
The Thursday Group's goal is to create a nurturing and supportive environment where women diagnosed with breast cancer can receive information and emotional support during and after treatment.
Breast cancer survivors can share personal concerns and experiences to bring about a sense of hope and healing as they face the challenges their cancer diagnosis brings.
The Thursday Group helps create new friendships with others who share a similar diagnosis. It is important that breast cancer survivors know there are other women who understand their disease.
The Thursday Group meets the first Thursday of the month at Saint Joseph Cancer Center Resource Services (There are some exceptions during the year.) The meeting starts at 6:30 PM with a pot luck supper.
