Saint Joseph Health System, Lexington, KY
Go Red with the Legends
American Heart Association and Legends set to take on women’s heart disease with “Go Red with the Legends,” June 12
Saint Joseph Health System is the local cause partner; Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association
The American Heart Association, Saint Joseph Health System, Macy’s, Merck and the Lexington Legends are teaming up to battle both heart disease and the Delmarva Shorebirds.
On Saturday June 12, “Go Red with the Legends” night will unfold at Applebee’s Park. Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association, which funds education, advocacy, and scientific research.
Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association’s movement to further women’s awareness of heart disease and stroke and promote healthier lifestyles. Although just seven years old, Go Red has increased women’s understanding of the dangers of heart disease and stroke. Saint Joseph Health System is the Central Kentucky Goes Red local cause partner.
In the fight against cardiovascular diseases, education is crucial. The American Heart Association invites women to visit www.goredforwomen.com, where they can take the Go Red Heart CheckUp, as well as learn about risk factors and symptoms.
Fund raising is crucial, too. On December 3rd, the American Heart Association will hold the Central Kentucky Go Red For Women Luncheon. The luncheon is a fun and informative event that benefits the association’s fight against heart disease and stroke. Breakout sessions, a delicious meal, a powerful guest speaker and a Macy’s fashion show featuring heart disease survivors makes this occasion both touching and fun.
Heart disease is often thought primarily to affect men, but it is very much a woman’s concern too. Cardiovascular disease kills more than 432,000 women per year—about one per minute—and about 19 Kentucky women every day. It is the number-one killer of both men and women, while stroke is the number three killer and a leading cause of disability.
Macy’s and Merck sponsor the movement nationally, while Kentucky Beef, RJ Corman, and Al Torstrick Insurance support the cause locally.
Gates for “Go Red with the Legends” will open at 6 p.m. and the first pitch will be thrown at 7:05. Fireworks are planned after the game. Tickets for the game are $5.00 each and can be purchased by calling the American Heart Association at 278-1632.
